The Village parade is the one the world comes to watch. Park Slope's is the one Brooklyn's families walk in — a neighbourhood tradition since 1986, with costumed children, musicians, puppets and local groups filling Seventh Avenue on Halloween night.
Date and time
Saturday 31 October 2026. People start lining up around 6pm and the parade steps off at 6:30pm. The city's street permit for the start on 14th Street runs from 6:30 to 9pm.
The route
Along Seventh Avenue from 14th Street to 3rd Street, in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
What it costs
Nothing — the parade is free, to watch and to walk in.
Before and after
Seventh and Fifth Avenues are among the best trick-or-treating in the borough, and several Park Slope side streets are closed to cars for block parties the same afternoon under the city's Trick-or-Streets programme. The Park Slope Civic Council posts the final details on its Instagram as the date approaches.
Half an hour and a river separate the two parades, and that is the choice a family has to make: the Village at 7pm is a spectacle with crowds to match, Park Slope at 6:30 is an evening a small child can actually walk in. The line-up begins at 6pm at the 14th Street end, so arrive there rather than somewhere along the route if the point is to march, and plan the afternoon on the side streets — the 8th, 11th and 17th Street blocks have their own Trick-or-Streets closures from early afternoon, and Montgomery Place and Polhemus Place open earlier still.
