The East Village has been putting its dogs in costume for Halloween for 36 years, and on Saturday 17 October 2026 they go on parade again, a fortnight before the human version on Sixth Avenue.
When and where
11am on Saturday 17 October. The parade marches south down Avenue B, from East 13th Street to East 7th Street, along the east side of Tompkins Square Park.
Alongside it the Festival Block takes over East 6th Street between Avenues B and C, from 10am to 4pm.
What it costs
Watching costs nothing. Marching is by registration, and the organisers say it is full for 2026, so this year the way to see it is from the sidewalk.
When to get there
The organisers advise spectators to arrive between 10 and 10:30am. The route is six short blocks of Avenue B, which is not much sidewalk for a crowd that comes out for this every year.
The rest of the month
The Village Halloween Parade follows on Saturday 31 October, and the city's Trick-or-Streets open streets run all month.
This is a morning event, which sets it apart from almost everything else on the New York Halloween calendar: the parade steps off at eleven, while the Festival Block on East 6th Street keeps going until four. So the half hour before the start decides how much of the parade you see, and the afternoon is the forgiving part.
